Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis
Whether you have rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, LifeDesigns can help you live a healthier and more active life. When you are in pain, the last thing you want to do is exercise. But exercise is just what you need.
Rheumatoid Arthritis Therapy
Rheumatoid arthritis therapy can reduce joint pain, swelling, and stiffness. It can improve your overall health. Exercise can help control your body weight and prevent other medical problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. It can increase muscle strength and flexibility. It can improve your heart health. It can also boost your energy. Exercise therapy can help you live independently, so you can handle the activities of daily living (ADLs) on your own for as long as possible.
We can begin your rheumatoid arthritis therapy with weight-bearing exercises, like the recumbent bike. With most of your weight on the bike seat, we can build your strength and stamina. Then we work our way up to the treadmill, and eventually walking outside.
Osteoarthritis therapy can build up the muscles around the joints, and slow the progression of the disease. It is never too early – or too late – to start moving. We have dozens of exercise programs just for osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Programs focus on each major joint (shoulder, elbow, hand, upper and lower back, hip, knee, and ankle). Each exercise program has several levels to make each joint more stable. We also use taping techniques, called “spacing.” This enhanced tracking of the joint reduces the pain that makes it difficult for you to move.
